Vinegar Don'ts

Vinegar can be a great natural product to use when cleaning your house, but be careful what you are cleaning. Not every surface in your house should be cleaned with vinegar.

For instance, never use vinegar on surfaces like granite, marble or soapstone. Vinegar is very acidic, and should not be used on natural stones as it will cause pitting and dull the natural shine.

And don’t use vinegar on egg-based messes. The acid in the vinegar mixes with the protein in the eggs and creates a very gluey substance that is even more difficult to clean.

Never use full strength vinegar to clean solid wood surfaces. The acid in the vinegar can eat away at certain finishes on your wood.

When in doubt, check with the manufacturer on how to best clean the item in question.
